Follow Jesus

Jesus said to them, “Come follow me…”  Matthew 4:19

Jesus invites us to follow him. Have you ever wondered what that means? Being a follower of Jesus means that we are students of Jesus. It involves doing the things that He did and living according to His teachings. It’s about becoming Christ-like. The first step to following Jesus is believing that he is who he says he is. We need to pray, read the bible and be baptized.

You likely have an opinion about Jesus. Maybe you think of him as a great teacher or a prophet. Maybe you appreciate him as good person. Or maybe you think he didn’t exist at all. Whatever you believe, it’s certain that Jesus changed things.  Most of all, Jesus changed the lives of those who followed him. Those who were rich and poor, religious and rebellious, healthy and sick, and whole and broken came to him and experienced a new life. You and I may think whatever you want about Jesus, but what’s most important is what he said about himself. Jesus said:

I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

It’s true that Jesus was a teacher, a prophet, and a good person, but he claimed to be so much more than that. Followers of Jesus agree that his words are true. He is the way to God. He exemplifies the truth who God is and who people are meant to be, and relationship with him is life changing. If you would like to learn more about that first step, click here.

Relationships thrive on good communication. This is true in friendship, marriage, parenting, and any kind of relationship. The same principle applies to your relationship with God.  God is not distant and unapproachable. Through Jesus, God is close and accessible. God hears you when you pray. Begin praying in Jesus name and trust that God will move upon you and your prayer requests. Click here to submit a prayer request or learn more about prayer.

The Bible represents the primary way in which God speaks.

Over a period of 1600 years, the Bible was written by at least 40 authors, including kings, scholars, poor people, philosophers, fisher men, poets, statesmen, historians, teachers, prophets, and doctors. They wrote different types of literature such as history, poetry, prophecy, and letters. The Bible is 100 percent the work of human authors, yet 100 % inspired by God. – Nicky Gumbel.

Reading the Bible will reveal to you a clear picture of God, and of people. Most importantly, the Bible will show you that God, who is perfect, has since the beginning of time, been reaching out to imperfect people in order to have a relationship with them. Reading the Bible is the best way to discover how to have a relationship with God, through his son, Jesus. You can download the YouVersion Bible App for free for your phone or tablet, or you can stop by the Welcome Center at any of our locations on a Sunday to receive a free Bible. Begin by reading for 10 minutes a day. We suggest that you begin by reading the Book of John.

Baptism is something that Christians have been doing for thousand of years, but even before the Christian faith began, baptism was understood as as a way of agreeing with someone’s message. It was a means of identifying with the beliefs and values of a new culture or religion. Those who were convinced of their need to change would be plunged into water, signifying the washing away of their old life.

For Christians, baptism is a public declaration of an inside transformation. In being baptized, you’re letting the world know that Jesus has changed you from the inside out. The old has gone; the new has come! If you are interested in baptism, click here.

Children are a gift from the Lord Psalm 127:3

There’s no greater moment when parents sense that children are a gift from God. In these joyful moments, pastors have the privilege of sharing how parents can express their full appreciation to God through dedication. Dedicating your child acknowledges God’s sovereignty over the child and over the family. Parents present their child before God and His people asking for grace and wisdom in carrying out their responsibilities. If you are interested in dedicating your child or children to the Lord, click here.
